The Rustiks had major exposure with appearances on The Beatles tour which started at Bradford on the 9th October, and with Gerry and The Pacemakers in 'Gerry's Christmas Cracker,' which opened at Liverpool on 23rd December. The support acts on the Beatles tour which began in October 1964 were American singer, Mary Wells, Liverpool stablemates Tommy Quickly, (The Rustiks became Quickly's backing group in January - February 1965), Michael Haslam, The Rustiks and Sounds Incorporated. The show was compered by Bob Bain. The tour dates were as follows: 9th October Bradford, Gaumont; 10th October Leicester, De Montford Hall; 13th October, Wigan, ABC; 14th October Ardwick, Apollo; 15th October Stockton, Globe; 16th October Hull, ABC; 19th October Edinburgh, ABC; 20th October Dundee, Caird Hall; 21st October Glasgow, Odeon; 22nd October Leeds, Odeon; 23rd October London, Kilburn, Gaumont State; 24th October Walthamstow, Granada; 25th October Brighton, Hippodrome; 28th October Exeter, ABC; 29th October Plymouth, ABC; 1st November Finsbury Park, Astoria; 2nd November Belfast, Ritz; 4th November Luton,Ritz;5th November Nottingham, Odeon; 6th November Southampton, Gaumont; 7th November Cardiff, Capital; 8th November Liverpool, Empire; 9th November Sheffield, City Hall; 10th November Bristol, Colston Hall. In March 1965 The Rustiks spent 10 days at the festival of Valencia in Spain. In June they they returned they returned to Spain playing at US Air Bases. While in Madrid they also appeared on The Beatles concert at The Plaza de Toros. Then they played Majorca and Gilbraltar, following which the boys spent two months touring towns and villages in Southern Italy. On their return to England they were booked to play a three month engagement at the Savoy Hotel, London. |
