Teampull Clann A’ Phiocair, Caranish,
North Uist.
Founded in 1263 on the site of an older
Columban building. Generations of MacVicars came to the Teampull for the
purpose of teaching religion. The MacVicars were originally lecturers.
They were not ordained to administer the sacraments, but were simply teachers
of religion. However, some MacVicars studied for the priesthood because
the old people of the island referred to the MacVicars as ‘Sliochd Nan
Sagairt,’ - the descendants of the priests.
