Kintyre, Western Argyllshire.

The ancient homeland of Clann Mac A’ Phiocair is Kintyre in Western Agyllshire. The Roman legions knew them as the ‘ Vicarii,’ literally, ‘ those who sacrifice themselves for others.’ In Gaelic they were known as Mac A’ Phiocair which became Anglicised to MacVicar. The remains of ‘ BalMacVicar Township’ can still be seen on the Mull of Kintyre. The clan crest is an eagle and thus the MacVicars became known as ‘ The Sons Of The Eagle.’
